Odysseus

Dear Ms. Zrihen, I an currently reading the book Odysseus by Geraldine McCaughrean.
I picked this book because the librarian told me that it was a good folktale. My favorite part so far in this book was on page 1 when he says he has not see his father for 10 years all ready.
The two reading strategies I used was that before I started to read the book I Skim and Scanned through the pictures, table of contents, and the chart. I also read the synopsis. The two reading strategies I used while I was reading the book was that I reread hard pages and I asked myself questions about the book so far for example:  why would people eat fruit from a lotus tree. I am not there yet but when I am done with the book my two reading strategies are gonna be to go back in the story to look for more details, and to ask myself more questions about the book.
          The genera is: fiction Folktale.
Characters: All the main Greeks, Queen Penelope, the mother, Odysseus's child.
Setting:(place: Troy,) (Whether conditions: Hot, Rainy) (Social conditions: war) (Time: night, morning)
The exposition is that Odysseus did not see his son for 10 years. The rising action was that they went to check who else was on the island. The main problem was the war it was character vs supernatural because the war was vs other beasts they found in the island.
tone: fierce, war, happy
Mood: good
Theme: war
Point of view: My point of view of this story is that it is great it has a lot of action and I like that.
Authors purpose: To entertain.
 Authors perspective: objective, unbiased.
I rate this book a 8 out of 10 so far because it is really good but there are some words I don't understand.

  1. Dear Maor,
I thimk you did a really good job on your RJ, that was the good part. The bad part is the annoying questions I will ask you.
    What was the moral?
What was the pattern of organization?
    What was the figurative language?
Is the book a just right book?
I think that the book sounds good so far and if I have time maybe I will read it! anyways good job and keep up the good work!!

  2. Dear Maor,
Why was that your favorite part so far, when he says he hasn't seen his father for ten years? Was there something special about it or is there a story behind it...? Anyways, I think you did a good job on including everything needed in a reader's journal. How did you know that the genre was fiction folktale? Have you ever read any other books by Geraldine McCaughrean?

Who would you recommend this book to? What would you rate it? Other than all the annoying questions I asked I thought you did a really good job. I guess just keep doing what you are doing :).
    Sincerely,
    Tamar Bouskila
